Superman
Superman (K. G. Murray, 1950? series) has been grouped as part of a series of titles with continued numbering.
UK variants of Australian Superman comics started in 1950 with contents printed in the UK. The first 14 UK issues are effectively unique to the UK. The issues were printed with contents randomly drawn from the first 40 Australian issues, with new numbering and UK advertisements. This is the cause of the numbering variation between the UK and Australian editions.
UK issues #15-76 were printed in the UK based closely on the Australian edition, with different numbering, mostly different pricing and some changes to advertisements, replacing Australian ads with either UK ads or one-page filler stories.
UK editions #15-20 briefly went to 8d, while the first three equivalent Australian editions stayed at 6d (#43-45). All other UK editions were 6d. Later Australian editions progressively increased in price.
Printing in UK ended when KG Murray went briefly to full-colour printing in 1956. Ahead of the changeover, five Australian issues (#104-#108) were not printed with price variants for distribution in the UK. This meant the gap (delay) beween the distribution of Australian and UK editions was reduced by several months.
From UK edition #77 onward, issues were printed in Australia (initially in colour and then black and white) with variant pricing for distribution in the UK.
The last UK edition, #117, was probably not distributed in Australia (ie, no 1/- version) and the contents were used in Superman Supacomic #6 for Australia.
